Library Policies & Procedures: Cataloging

Policies and procedures governing the SAC Library.

Cataloging

The Library currently maintains a publicly available, web-based catalog (library.alamo.edu) consisting of thousands of records documenting the resources available to the SAC community, and its affiliates. These resources include print books, DVDs, CD-ROMs, U.S. government documents, as well as links to e-books, e-media, and online articles from many of the subscription databases.

The catalog is shared by all five Alamo Colleges libraries and the location, call number, and circulation status of the materials are displayed to viewers.

Each of the five libraries maintains its own materials collection, including subscription databases. This means off-campus/remote access to some online resources will be available ONLY to a specific college's current students, staff and faculty. To gain access to restricted resources, you may visit the library that owns/subscribes to the resource you want to use.

The SAC Library's collection is also searchable through WorldCat, a web-based interface to library collections world-wide that is provided by OCLC, a library cooperative in which SAC Library holds a membership.

For assistance using the library catalog or WorldCat, visit the Reference Desk in MLC 200 or phone 486-0554.
