ENG 1301 Research Paper

ENGL 1301: The Digital Age Essay

Like many other technological advances before it, the internet has fundamentally impacted the way humans interact with the one another and with the world. It has altered every aspect of society and how we live, work, learn, and communicate. It has even changed how we understand and perceive ourselves.

For our second essay, reflect on a distinct aspect of the topic. Below are some possibilities (note the difference between the internet, technology, and social media):

  • Discuss how social media has impacted our relationships and the way we interact with one another.
  • Discuss social media and adolescents. Is it harmful? Should there be regulations?
  • Discuss social media and the workforce. Should employers have access to employee’s social media information?
  • Discuss social media etiquette. Should people restrain themselves about what they post?
  • Discuss social media profiles and identities. Are online profiles valid and truthful representations of who we are?
  • Discuss how the internet has impacted our relationships and the way we interact with one another.
  • Discuss the internet and education. How is the internet being used in education? Is it improving or damaging education?
  • Discuss the effects of the internet on our skills. Do they make us smart and effective or dependent and unproductive?
  • Discuss whether the internet is positively or negatively affecting society.

Once you have chosen a distinct aspect and brainstormed ideas related to that distinct aspect, narrow your focus even more to a specific explainable or arguable thesis.

Once you have a specific focused claim, decide on a method or methods of development (definition, exemplification, cause/effect, compare/contrast, process, etc.) to organize your supporting points. Make sure supporting points are clear and exact.
