What Is EBL?

EBL (Ebook Library) is one of San Antonio College Library's ebook databases.

Loan Periods

Don't worry about the loan period.

(1) If you see that your EBL book has "expired," find it in the Discovery or in EBL and check it out again

(2) You can check it out as many times as you wish

Technical Notes

-- EBL requires patrons to enter their username and password, even if they are on campus.

-- EBL has unlimited usage, so you won't be shut out even if someone else is reading the same book.

-- Browse: You can look at the book for a few minutes, and then you'll be prompted to "request a loan." If you want to keep reading, do that.

-- Occasionally, EBL will not let you borrow the book but instead will ask you for your name and e-mail. Enter them, and you will get a message saying that a "request to borrow the book has been sent to the library and is pending approval." This happens because your "checkout" of the book will trigger a purchase by the library, but the purchase must be "approved" because of the book's cost. Within a few hours, your request will be "approved" by our Head of Collections and you will get a note saying that the book is available.

-- Printing and copying:

  • You can print 20% of a book, and copy 5%

  • The "details" tab will show you how much more you're allowed to print/copy, and this also shows up when you hit PRINT

  • Even if you've tried to print pages and been unsuccessful, you may still print those same pages even if your print quota has been reached

  • Downloading the book does not increase the number of pages you may print

How It Works

DETAILS will tell you how many more pages you can print or copy.

NOTES will allow you to create notes about different pages, and EXPORT them, if you want to save them. Do this BEFORE the loan period expires.

DOWNLOAD lets you download the book to your computer or laptop.

  • Then you can save the book file on your computer

  • To read it on your e-reader, tablet, or phone, hook up to your computer and transfer it

When your "loan period" is over, the book will show as "expired" in your ADE:

Having Printing Problems?

Problems with printing from EBL are usually related to Adobe Reader preferences and/or browser settings.

Make sure that:

  • You have Adobe Reader installed

  • Adobe Reader's JavaScript Preferences (Edit --> Preferences) have Acrobat Javascript enabled

  • Preferences are set to "Open PDF in Browser"

  • Your web browser has Javascript-enabled

Firefox vs. PDF

Firefox sometimes creates problems with the PDF view. To avoid these, switch to another browser OR use the "image" view instead of PDF.
