Writing Project-REFLECTIONS (SLOs 1-5)

 

These reflections will focus on different subject matter to write about throughout the semester. The requirements for each reflection consists of the following: A minimum of three (3) typed, double-spaced pages per reflection, MLA heading and pagination, and a minimum of two citations per reflection and the works cited at the end of the reflection.

I.             Film Reflection (Narrative): This is the first reflection, which focuses on your reaction/opinion of your favorite film. Is there anything about the film that could influence others? (The research would focus on the director/production/advertising, etc.)

II.            Alcohol Abuse and Energy Drink Addiction Reflection (Definition): You will locate one peer-review journal article, an article in a magazine, and a website and evaluate the content of the information and criticize if the information is useful for an individual who may want to learn more about this dangerous issue and how to prevent it.  

III.           Advertising Reflection (Illustration/Definition/Causes and Effect/Argumentation): You will view a Thai Life Insurance Commercial on you tube entitled, “unsung hero.” Please view the video, compare and contrast this insurance commercial to an advertisement on a billboard, a magazine, a commercial, or an internet ad that you enjoyed or that you would like to critique. You will not only include your reaction to the advertisement but also evaluate the role and purpose of the advertisement and you will compare and contrast it to and include three researched sources with a focus on advertising. Note: All advertising examples should be appropriate for a general audience.

IV.          Social Concern Reflection (Causes and Effects, Illustration, Process):  You will select a topic that focuses on the issue of unemployment and focus on the current trends in terms of challenges associated with unemployment and locate a website, a magazine, or a book for your source. Discuss the topic and how this acquired knowledge can help people in the community to better prepare others in the event of a difficulty such as unemployment.   

V.            Technology and Social Media Reflection (Causes and Effects, Argumentative, Process): You will address an issue of concern as it relates to a health or social concern that is a result of technology. Reflect on how you can create an awareness of this most prevalent issue. You will include a website and a newspaper article.

VI.          Final Reflection: This is the last reflection, which focuses on an overall experience to the reading, researching, and writing in this course.

Required components for this last reflection include the following:

a.            Reflect on how you could have been better prepared to complete the course—what resources/tools could you have implemented prior to the course beginning?

b.            Reflect on three of the course readings you have read for our class and explain if the readings have been “teachable,” entertaining, or both, and explain how?

c.             What specific aspect of the course learning will you apply to your future writing?
