Directions for Essay #4 (A Rhetorical Analysis of Two Articles) due December  2, 2019

Word Length:  700 -800 words

Format:  Use MLA (Modern Language Association) rules  for appearance, heading, headers, in-text quotations, in-text citations, and the Works Cited page.

Directions

Compare and contrast two articles about the same topic.   The articles should express differing opinions about the topic and should be dated within the last 5 (five) years and published within a reputable periodical, newspaper, online source, or book.  For “reputable,” check with your teacher or a librarian.    

Establish a clearly stated thesis in Essay #4’s first paragraph in which you set up points of comparison and/or contrast.  Conclude which article is the most persuasive. 

In your essay, include at least four quotations (at least two from each article).  Introduce quotations grammatically and gracefully and cite the quotations internally according to MLA rules.  Include a Works Cited page (Model it on the one on  p. 452 in CWSwR, 10th edition – the textbook for the course).

Adoptions (international,  by same sex parents, of teens, etc .)

Discrimination  in academia, business, medicine, and/or law

Minimum wage increases

Retail marijuana stores

Environmental protections

Standardized testing

Social media freedoms and     limitations

Women in military combat

Downloading of music

Mental health funding

Texas teachers’ salaries

Rights of children of non-documented immigrants

Healthy food in school cafeterias

Classroom use of smart phones

Limitation of firearm sales

Stress as a medical condition

Personal online security
