Searching as Strategic Exploration

Objectives:

This assignment will help you practice finding credible articles and creating a properly formatted bibliography. You will explore topics relevant to college students, such as study skills, time management, mental health, or financial literacy, and develop skills in researching and citing sources. 

Instructions 1. Choose a Topic: Select a topic related to college students. Here are some examples to get you started: Time management strategies Managing stress or mental health Study techniques for academic success Balancing work, school, and life Financial tips for college students

2. Library Day: Navigating Databases To help you with this assignment, we will have a Library Day. During this session, the librarian will guide you through: How to access and navigate the library’s databases. Tips for finding credible sources on your chosen topic. Make sure to come prepared with your chosen topic or an idea of what you’d like to research. You’ll have time during this session to start finding articles for your bibliography.

3. Research Articles: During the library session, find three articles related to your topic. Email them to yourself including the APA citation.

4. Create Your Bibliography: For each article, include the following: A complete citation in APA format (or another format specified by your instructor).

A summary (2-3 sentences) describing the main idea of the article. A reflection (1-2 sentences) explaining why you think this article is useful for college students. List your entries in alphabetical order by the author's last name. 

Example Citation:

Smith, J. (2022). The power of time management: How students can improve academic performance. Journal of College Success, 12(3), 45-56. Summary:

This article explains how college students can use time management strategies to boost productivity and reduce stress. It includes tips such as using planners, setting goals, and prioritizing tasks. Reflection: I chose this article because time management is a challenge for many students, and the tips provided could help me and my classmates stay organized and succeed in college. 

K.2. Information sources vary greatly in content and format

K.3. Recognize the value of browsing in gathering information
