Collection Development Statement for Nursing

Purpose:
The nursing collection supports study and teaching required by the San Antonio College Department of Nursing Education's Associate in Applied Science degree.
Language:
English will be the primary language of the collection, but Spanish language items will be purchased when appropriate.
Publication Dates:
Emphasis is placed on new material published within the last five years. When a new edition of a work is published, older editions will be removed.
Materials will be identified through recommendations in or from:
Faculty, student, or patron recommendations
Choice
Library journal
Booklist

Geography:
Publications from the United States will be collected.
Material Types:
All formats may be collected. Serials are heavily relied upon for current material and textbooks provide background information. Audiovisual materials will be reviewed for selective additions to the collection.
Retention Policy
All materials will be considered for de-selection within three to five years of publication. All superseded editions will be removed from the shelves. Only material containing historic value or consumer interest will be retained beyond the five year period.
