Librarians and Faculty at San Antonio College are on a journey towards building student confidence and persistence through a college-wide initiative called Fearless Learning: Empowering Students with Information Literacy. Not only are we looking to affect change in the mindset students have about the research process, but also to tilt current pedagogical practices in the library, the classroom, and one-on-one appointments toward the dispositional elements outlined in the Framework for Information Literacy. There are three programs within the Library which specifically address student learning and information literacy:
Library Instruction Classes
- Faculty requested, in person (MLC 209/707J) and online (Zoom), 75 minutes in length
- Tailored to specific research assignments/outcomes
- Holistic approach with discussion of Big Picture information literacy concepts and practice to see how they fit into assignment specifics
Book a Librarian Appointments
- Student requested, in person (MLC 200G) and online (Zoom), 30 minutes in length
- Focused on specific research assignment/outcomes
- Targeted in-depth approach to meet students where they are at in their process
Reference Desk Assistance
- Walk-in help, in person (MLC 200) and online via Ask a Librarian chat, email, phone
- Brief engagements set students on a more successful path to project completion
